Abstract:
Report Highlights
MEMS/MST technology was first disclosed over twenty two years ago. At long last the initial expectations that these devices would become ubiquitous by the turn of the century is becoming a reality in certain vertical markets. Both unit consumption and revenues are growing at a healthy rate as a host of innovative applications serve as major market drivers. MEMS/MST will generate over US$ 17,000 million in 2002 on consumption in excess of 3,400 million units.
Shipments of MEMS/MST devices in 2006 are expected to exceed US$ 34,000 million on a unit volume of 10,400 million as the adoption of MEMS/MST devices into new and existing products accelerates.
63 products are identified and individually addressed in this report with both unit consumption and revenue forecasts through 2006.
Information Technology comprises the largest current consuming industry for MEMS/MST devices in both unit and US$ terms, with BioTech in second place and automotive in third.
Although respectable growth rates are expected in certain identified niches, MEMS/MST technology is still encountering difficulty in achieving widespread penetration into mainstream products. Some of these obstacles can be overcome if several steps are taken by the industry as a whole to address the atmosphere of secrecy and encourage participants co-operation. This report identifies critical issues, and provides suggestions for enhancing and accelerating acceptance of this technology by OEMs and other end-users.
VDC offers MEMS/MST reports that address unit and revenue consumption for any one of the following vertical markets at $1,950 or the entire report addressing all of the vertical markets for $4,950.
