Abstract:
Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York (HIP), including its acquisition of Vytra Health Plans, with more than one million members is the largest HMO and one of the largest health plans in the New York metropolitan area. HIP operates in the New York area, including Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties and the five boroughs of New York: Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. HIP also makes available its EPO/PPO product to New York-based groups for employees and dependents who reside in New Jersey, Connecticut and New York. HIP increased its net enrollment in 2002 by more than 117,000 members -- a 12.5% increase over 2001, raising its total membership entering 2003 to 1,050,153. Known for over half a century as New York City’s premier HMO, HIP now offers a growing range of products as well as an expanding provider network, numbering more than 20,000 providers in nearly 31,000 service locations.
