Abstract:

Tunisia maintains a monopoly in fixed telephony and since late 2002 has hosted a mobile duopoly. Rapid growth in the mobile sector is expected over the next five years, due to pent-up demand, rapidly falling tariffs and first-time service availability countrywide. The government-controlled Tunisian Internet Agency functions as the state's national filter and Internet regulator, leasing Internet access to several private ISPs, including two that are licensed to offer Internet services to the private sector and individuals. Datacommunications and broadband service provision are at an early stage of development. This 19-page report takes a comprehensive look at the Tunisian market, covering immediate issues facing the market, in the context of the political, economic, regulatory, and competitive environments. It includes fixed communications predictions, mobile communications predictions, vendor relationships, and risk assessment.
