Abstract:
Countries covered:
United States
Formally titled the "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act," the USA Patriot Act, H.R. 3162, was passed by Congress on October 24, 2001 and signed into law on October 26, 2001. As part of the post-September 11th initiative to protect America and its resources from acts of terror, the USA Patriot Act gives the government additional tools to help track, prevent, and combat terrorism. In doing so it offers new challenges for IT professionals and their organizations regarding how electronic information and transactions are maintained, reported, archived and monitored.
