Abstract:
Countries covered: United States
This IDC study presents details on recent grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to all 50 states and five territories. It analyzes how much of the $2.9 billion in grant money is likely to be spent on IT-related projects and discusses why dual- and multiuse IT projects will find favor in cash-strapped state and local government IT offices.
State and local IT spending has slowed in recent years due to sluggish local economies and tax bases. New DHS grant money will finally boost state and local spending.
"Multimillion-dollar DHS grants to states for special security projects will continue for the foreseeable future. Thus the grants are evolving into a significant new market. Duel-use efforts for IT projects may prove to be popular solutions for vendors that can pitch them to procurement officials." ? Shawn McCarthy, program manager, Government
