This IDC study presents a view of the Australia government sector and provides a map of where short- and longer-term opportunities can be found from an IT perspective. Included herein is an IT spending forecast from 2006 to 2010 as well as the results of a survey conducted for this vertical. Overall, growth will be determined by the interaction of a number of key market factors. IDC explores these factors and provides guidance for players in a crowded market.
Phillip Allen, research manager, Vertical Markets Research, IDC Australia, says, "The government sector IT spending contributes 15.2% to Australia's total IT spending. The federal government IT spending is forecast to reach A$2,334 million in 2006 while the state and local government IT spending will reach A$2,057 million. Overall, IDC expects the government IT spending to increase more than the total Australia IT spending, therefore, presenting larger and growing market opportunities for IT vendors."
