Abstract:
Overall, production of cellulosic fibres in South America has declined since the early 1990s. Indeed Chile, Colombia and Peru no longer have any cellulosic production facilities.
However, Argentina continues to produce a very small quantity of cellulosic filament yarn and Brazil produces both cellulosic filament yarn and cellulosic staple fibre.
In Argentina, production of cellulosic filament yarn rose significantly during the early 1990s before subsequently declining. In 2003 output witnessed a slight upturn, reaching 1,100 tons. However, this was still well below the 4,600 tons produced in 1996.
