Abstract:
Gamma Holding develops, manufactures and sells textile-based products throughout the world.
At the end of 2003 it had 163 subsidiary companies in 35 countries, 43 production facilities, and a total of 9,353 employees.
Its headquarters are located in Helmond, Netherlands, and its shares are listed on Euronext Amsterdam.
Gamma Holding’s turnover is split almost 50:50 between two main sectors: Gamma Technologies, and Gamma Comfort & Style.
The emphasis in Gamma Technologies is on technical and industrial products with a focus on markets in developed countries.
In the case of Gamma Comfort & Style, the focus is more on commodity-type products where the company can retain a lead through long established sales networks and production chains.
Since the late 1990s, Gamma has largely exited the traditional sectors of home furnishing and carpets while making a number of significant acquisitions in highly specialised technical textile areas and filtration.
In 2004 the performance of Gamma Technologies has been badly hit by adverse exchange rates—notably the weakness of the US dollar.
Also, instability in West Africa is now threatening the high performing Exotic Fabrics African fashion business, which is a key part of the Gamma Comfort & Style sector.
