Abstract:

Fears that a slowing housing market, rising interest rates and economic uncertainty have taken their toll on retail have proved to be well-founded. According to an annual survey of 6,000 shoppers, How Britain Shops 2005, fewer people are shopping in six of the eight major retail sectors. And while shopper numbers are declining, retail markets are consolidating with the leading retailers claiming an ever-larger share.
